Access to Care in Oceano

C.A.R.E.4Paws is excited and grateful for a grant from PetSmart Charities to address challenges in accessing veterinary care in San Luis Obispo (SLO) County’s city of Oceano. In Oceano, where 42% percent of community members are Hispanic and the per-capita income is less than $34,000 per year. C.A.R.E.4Paws is one of 10 animal welfare organizations in the United States to receive this new, innovative Access to Care grant.

C.A.R.E.4Paws hosts regular Pet Wellness Clinics for pet families in need in Oceano. Dogs and cats can receive vaccines, flea treatment, deworming medication, microchips and nail trims. We also provide low-cost spays/neuters, health exams and other medical care through the PetSmart Charities grant.

“Oceano is a community that has chronically been without access to pet care of any kind,” says C.A.R.E.4Paws’ executive director and cofounder, Isabelle Gullö. “The PetSmart Charities funding allows C.A.R.E.4Paws to bring much needed veterinary services to the city, which improves quality of life for Oceano pet families and helps keep animals with the people who love them.”
