This spring, C.A.R.E.4Paws partnered with Good Samaritan Shelter (“Good Sam”) to assist unsheltered pet families moving into two new, pet-friendly housing facilities by DignityMoves—Hope Village in Santa Maria and La Posada in Goleta—as well as Good Sam’s Lompoc shelter, Bridge House.
Since March, we’ve hosted several wellness clinics alongside Good Sam to make sure pets are altered and up to date on vaccines, flea treatment, dewormer and other basic care. Our clinic team brought services to Hope Village on March 22 and April 5 and to Bridge House on April 2. On April 21, we assisted La Posada clients in our largest mobile unit, while a second team went to Santa Maria’s riverbed to support pet families camping in the area.
Through the partnership, C.A.R.E.4Paws also offers animal behavior assessments and dog training as well as training sessions for staff and residents on how to interact with resident pets. So far, we have held several training sessions for dogs staying at Bridge House.
Additionally, we provide pet food and supplies, such as beds, cat litter and crates to all three shelters.
We are excited to participate as our community moves forward to provide more support for the unhoused and to ensure that pet families can stay intact when they go through critical life transitions.
