Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties are home to many colonies of community cats, populations that grow incredibly fast unless you spay/neuter these kitties. C.A.R.E.4Paws helps curb overpopulation by altering several hundred community cats annually through TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release). A big thanks to ResQcats for sponsoring some of these surgeries and to Sarah Ganschow, our cat-loving veterinary clinic assistant, for her excellent TNR work! #nationalspayneutermonth, #tnrworks
Every time we roll out our mobile units, we host a walk-in Pet Wellness Clinic with low-cost vaccines, flea treatment, dewormer, microchips and nail trims for dogs and cats. These services help keep pets happy and healthy and prevent outbreaks of disease. In 2022, we helped 10,000 dogs and cats during our walk-in clinics, in addition to the 3,000-plus pets assisted with spays/neuters and medical care inside of our clinics. We microchipped a total of 2,763 pets!
We can only do this important work with the community’s support. Please know that your gift will help keep us rolling!
We have:
Spayed/neutered 2,300 dogs and cats, up from 2,025 in 2021!
Assisted 1,700 pets with veterinary care.
Provided 18,000 vaccines, flea treatments, deworming medications, microchips and nail trims during our walk-in Pet Wellness Clinics—an increase by 3,000 such procedures in 2021.
Distributed TWO tons of pet food weekly and more than one million pounds of pet food total since the pandemic, while also providing critical supplies and temporary foster care as well as grooming for pets of community members experiencing homelessness.
Expanded our Mobile Community Medicine & Spay/Neuter Outreach to San Luis Obispo (SLO) County with a program called Snip & Chip SLO in collaboration with SLO nonprofits Animals in Need Fund and Animal Shelter Adoption Partners.
Held our first annual Walk Against Abuse at Elings Park to support Safe Haven and pet families exposed to domestic violence.
Promoted compassion for all living beings while working with youth through Paws Up For Pets…this includes the talented young artists who paint wonderful pieces for our Pet Portrait Project.
Been a featured nonprofit in the new Giving List – check it out!
We could not have accomplished all of this without YOU, our donors, grantors, sponsors, business and nonprofit partners, volunteers and staff. Thank you for being there for C.A.R.E.4Paws and the community in such a big way!
We got this kind holiday note from our friend, Chelito:
